Company Policy

It is our goal to make our success your success by committing to creating a New Zealand of great diversity in natural resources, ecosystems and animal life. By shopping with the Maruia Nature Company whether from our catalogue or on the website you enable us to commit financial resources to preserving, protecting and enhancing the New Zealand wildlife and landscapes that we all cherish.

New Zealand Nature Co. headquarters

Throughout our business practices we attempt to use environmentally conscious practices from using recycled packaging when possible to printing on recycled paper and promoting organic products.

We believe that natural is best and use natural fibres - cotton, wool, silk - to create clothing that is beautiful to wear and can replace plastic based manufactured synthetics that consume precious energy resources to create. We strongly support use of natural solar energy and provide you with products to enhance your lifestyle by using the sun as a natural renewable energy resource. To protect our native birds and forests we recognise the threat that the introduced species of Brushtail Possums is. Possum fur products in the catalogue help create a market solution to control this pest by using its fur in commercial products. We also encourage you to help control this species through trapping. Miranda Van Dyk - New Zealand Nature Co. - Product Dispatch RoomWe are privileged to be taking this stand in celebrating New Zealand's natural resources and want to make it as easy as possible for you to help us. When you choose to shop with us we want you to be happy from the moment you place an order. You will find our service quick and helpful and your complete satisfaction is our goal. We will gladly exchange or refund any purchase that isn't 100% satisfactory. It's that simple. We appreciate your feedback on how we are doing in meeting our objectives so please feel free to contact us when you want to.

Each year we support conservation projects by providing financial backing and also channelling donations received to do this work from our customers and supporters in the community. The Maruia Nature Company's conservation focus for this year is on finding the South Island Kokako. This melodious songbird is on the verge of extinction if it has survived at all.

We are still searching for the South Island Kokako, a bird that is being brought back from the brink of extinction by the Department of Conservation. This rare, blue wattled bird has an even rarer, orange wattled relative: the South Island Kokako. One of New Zealand's most respected ornithologists, Rhys Buckingham, believes the South Island Kokako still survives in remote southern beech forests. He has seen and heard the bird in the Glenroy Valley and Stewart Island, and believes it may also survive at other sites.

The Maruia Nature Catalogue and the Ecologic Foundation are sponsoring Rhys to mount a special search for this elusive bird. For more information on the search head to our Nature Watch page.
